- Oh Sh!t List
18 Must-Have Items to Grab Before You Say ‘I Do’ Your wedding day is finally here! You’ve planned every detail, from the flowers to the playlist. Before you rush out the door, let’s make sure you’ve packed everything you need to keep things running smoothly. Here’s the ultimate checklist to make sure you’re prepared for all those little wedding day moments. 1. Marriage License It’s the one piece of paper that truly makes the day official! Don’t leave home without it; hand it off to someone reliable (your wedding planner or officiant) for safekeeping. 2. Rings This might seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how often they get left behind! Put them in a secure box and make sure your ring bearer or best man knows where they are. 3. Vows If you’ve written personal vows, bring a neatly printed or handwritten copy to keep them close. You'll be grateful to have it on hand in case nerves hit! 4. Vendor Contact List Print a list of all your vendors and their contact info. It’s a lifesaver if you need to make a last-minute call or adjust anything. If you're a YPB client this info is on the top of your wedding day timeline! 5. Photo ID Whether it’s for legal purposes or honeymoon travel, keeping an ID handy is always a good idea. 6. Wedding Shoes Double-check that your wedding shoes are packed. If they’re brand new, break them in beforehand to avoid any wedding day blisters. 7. Outfit Accessories This includes all the little extras like veils, cufflinks, ties, jewelry, and garters. Have these packed in a small, easy-to-grab bag. 8. Touch-Up Kit Makeup touch-ups are inevitable! Pack some essentials like lipstick, powder, and tissues to stay picture-perfect all day. 9. Perfume/Cologne Bring your favorite scent to add that little extra charm. A spritz before walking down the aisle will keep you feeling fresh. 10. Phone & Charger You’ll need your phone for important contacts, capturing moments, or playing the playlist while you’re getting ready. And don’t forget the charger! 11. Comfortable Shoes If your wedding shoes are formal, consider packing some comfortable shoes or sneakers for dancing or in-between photos. 12. Snack & Water A little snack stash will go a long way in keeping your energy up. Pack some water too to stay hydrated during a long, exciting day! 13. Emergency Kit Think of this as a little wedding day “insurance.” Pack some Band-Aids, safety pins, a small sewing kit, stain remover, and anything 14. Gifts and Cards Don't forget the gift and card to give to your partner 15. Overnight Bag If you are staying at a hotel on your wedding night (or leaving on your honeymoon) 16. Thank you notes and tips If you want to express your gratitude to vendors and helpful friends/family members 17. Cash For anything unexpected 18. Umbrella or Sunscreen Don't forget to weather proof your wedding day!! With these 18 essentials in hand, you’re all set for a smooth and memorable wedding day! Packing these must-haves will help you handle any small hiccups, keep you feeling comfortable, and make sure you’re focused on what truly matters: celebrating with your partner and loved ones.
- Weatherproofing Your Winter Wedding: Essential Planning Tips for a Magical Wedding Day
Winter weddings are undeniably enchanting, with the crisp air, and the cozy warmth of indoor celebrations. However, planning a wedding in the colder months requires a little extra preparation, especially when it comes to weatherproofing. You want your big day to be as magical as you’ve envisioned, no matter what the weather throws at you. Here are some essential tips to ensure your winter wedding is a seamless and unforgettable experience. 1. Prepare for Temperature Swings Winter weather can be unpredictable. While you may dream of a snowy outdoor ceremony, the temperature can drop unexpectedly, especially in the late afternoon and evening. It’s essential to plan for fluctuating temperatures by choosing the right wardrobe for both you and your guests. Consider providing stylish shawls, wraps, or pashminas for guests attending an outdoor ceremony or waiting outside for photos. For the bridal party, have extra layers ready for outdoor photos, like fur wraps or jackets that complement your wedding attire. Don’t forget that your shoes can also take a hit with ice or slush, so think about adding chic yet practical footwear options for outdoor moments. 2. Choose a Weather-Resistant Venue Choosing a venue that can handle the whims of winter weather is a must. If you're planning an outdoor ceremony, make sure your venue offers indoor backup options in case of snow, rain, or cold winds. Many venues will have heated tents, covered outdoor areas, or grand indoor spaces with scenic winter views. For a reception, consider venues with a cozy atmosphere—think grand fireplaces, soft lighting, and plenty of warm, inviting spaces. The right indoor setting will help you avoid potential discomfort from the cold while still capturing the beauty of the season. 3. Plan for Safe Travel Winter roads can be treacherous, and while you can’t control the weather, you can plan ahead. When selecting your venue and booking vendors, always check that they have winter weather contingency plans. For guests traveling to your wedding, provide clear, detailed instructions on travel routes and include a backup plan in case of road closures or icy conditions. For wedding day transportation, especially for the couple and bridal party, consider booking vehicles with all-wheel drive or snow tires. You can also provide guests with transportation options to and from the venue to minimize risk and make it easier for everyone to enjoy the celebration without worrying about travel. 4. Embrace the Season with Warm Beverage Stations Nothing beats the chill of a winter wedding like a warm drink! Whether it’s hot cocoa, mulled wine, or a signature hot cocktail, offering a warm beverage station can keep your guests toasty and create a festive atmosphere. For an extra touch, you could even personalize the drinks with your wedding colors or flavors that match your theme. Add cozy seating areas by fireplaces or heating lamps to encourage mingling and relaxation while guests enjoy the warmth of your thoughtful details. 5. Consider Seasonal Decor and Lighting Winter is the perfect season for creating a stunning, romantic atmosphere with lighting and decor. Think twinkling fairy lights, candles, and chandeliers that will cast a soft, warm glow throughout your venue. Decorate with seasonal elements like evergreen branches, pinecones, and faux fur throws to make your venue feel magical and festive. If you're planning an outdoor photo session, incorporate the natural beauty of winter by embracing snow, icicles, or frost-covered trees. Consider adding extra lighting or heaters to keep everyone comfortable, especially if you're taking pictures outside during the colder parts of the day. 6. Don’t Forget Your Hair and Makeup Cold, dry air can be tough on your skin and hair, so you’ll want to take extra steps to keep things looking fresh and flawless throughout the day. Start with a hydrating skincare routine to prevent dryness, and use makeup products that are long-lasting and resistant to wind and moisture. Consider opting for a makeup artist and hairstylist who specializes in winter weddings and is familiar with the challenges the cold weather presents. For your hair, styles that keep hair tucked away from wind—like updos or braids—are a good option. And if you plan on venturing outside for photos, make sure to keep a compact mirror and hairspray on hand for quick touch-ups. 7. Keep Your Guests Comfortable For outdoor weddings or receptions, you want your guests to feel comfortable, no matter the temperature. Consider providing blankets, hand warmers, or even small gifts to make the experience more enjoyable for them. Create designated warming areas, such as heated tents or lounges with cozy seating, to give your guests a comfortable place to retreat if the weather gets too chilly. 8. Embrace the Beauty of Winter Foods Winter foods and beverages can be hearty and delicious, adding to the cozy, seasonal feel of your wedding day. A winter wedding is the perfect time to incorporate rich, flavorful comfort foods into your menu, like roasted root vegetables, warm soups, or decadent desserts like spiced cakes or warm apple cider doughnuts. If you're having a buffet or family-style meal, offer dishes that will keep warm and satisfy the hearty appetites often stirred by cold weather. 9. Create a Flexible Timeline Because winter days are shorter, plan your wedding day timeline to make the most of daylight hours. A late afternoon ceremony and early evening reception can work perfectly, but make sure your photographer is prepared to take advantage of golden hour (the last hour of sunlight before sunset) for stunning photos. Additionally, be flexible with your timeline in case of weather delays. Snow, rain, or even unexpected traffic can delay your guests' arrival or create last-minute changes to your schedule. Build in a little buffer time so you’re not rushed and can fully enjoy every moment. Final Thoughts Winter weddings offer a breathtaking backdrop for your celebration, and with the right preparation, they can be just as magical as any other season. By weatherproofing your wedding with thoughtful details, a solid contingency plan, and cozy touches, you can ensure that you and your guests stay comfortable while enjoying the beauty and wonder of winter. Embrace the season, plan ahead, and you’ll be sure to create lasting memories that shine even brighter against the winter landscape.
