- The Venue Series: Washington Coast & Island Wedding Venues
Welcome to The Venue Series! We love helping couples find the best fitting venue for their ideal budget via our standalone Venue Hunt Consultation or Venue Hunt add-on for wedding planning packages. As PNW Planners, we've planned and designed in hundreds of Oregon and Washington venues, and we're sharing some of our favorites and why we love them. All photos featured are from weddings we've coordinated, planned, and/or designed. If you’re the type of person who loves the coziness and serenity of the PNW coast, good news: it’s the perfect place to host a wedding. Just picture this: waves crashing in the distance, intimate coves for private moments together, a fresh coastal haze in the air, waterfront views and a lush forest backdrop. Sounds nice doesn’t it? With the islands off the northwestern archipelago and stateside that stretches along the Pacific Ocean, Washington State is full of wedding venues with waterfront views of picturesque coastlines. Many of the venues on these islands are also expansive properties, offering diverse areas all within one venue, and diverse venues across each coastal pinpoint. As wedding planners who have planned and designed all over the state of Washington, we’re sharing some of our favorite coastal and island venues in Washington State: from the Kitsap Peninsula, to the San Juan Islands, to Whidbey Island, to Bainbridge Island, and even Camano Island. But first, some guidance. There are a few things you’ll want to know about hosting your coastal or island wedding. Tips for Planning a Wedding on a Washington Island Plan For Weather Washington's weather can be unpredictable, so plan your wedding date or select your venue with care. As planners, we always have a backup plan from the start and have used a handful of companies to get tents set up if needed. Stay The Weekend We highly suggest you and your guests (or at least VIP guests stay the weekend for your wedding! The peninsula and Washington islands are so quaint, it’s fun to explore the little towns and walk the coastline in between your wedding festivities. Ask us for our couples’ favorite places they’ve stayed! Travel There are limited transportation options on the islands, which means all your guests will need to have a car to ferry across / drive around the peninsula, or you’ll need to provide a shuttle for your guests. There are limited companies that offer this service, but we’re happy to help connect you! With ferry rides being the main mode of transportation, you'll also want to plan your timeline cautiously and leave time for delays so you're not running into any issues with any late arrivals. A note from experience: we’ve found that avoiding the ferry and driving around the peninsula is actually more cost effective - read more in our second about our travel costs. Local vs Non-Local Vendors While there are some great local vendors we always help our couples connect with that are based on the Washington Islands, there are limited options, so you may want to pad your vendor budget to account for travel fees. Bottom line, you’ll want to work with vendors who are familiar with the area. With island weddings comes various logistics to deal with, like the extended travel time, limited local options, etc. Our team has been to every island and all the venues we’ve listed below, plus a few more. Many couples have opted to go with Your Perfect Bridesmaid even with travel fees, because we’re equipped to plan for it all. While we do charge for travel, we are always transparent about our travel costs, so we wanted to share the truth about what goes into those travel fees. FAQs About Your Perfect Bridesmaid's Travel Fees Why do you have travel fees? Did you know that YPB doesn’t make a single dime on travel fees? We charge just what is paid out to our team. Planners on our team are all employees, and we always make sure they get paid for their time! Our team's safety is a top priority, and we don’t want them driving late at night after an exhausting 10, 12, 15 hour day. We always stay until the end of the night for weddings to clean your venue and pack up your belongings (which not all planners do)- and that means some of these island venues require a night of accommodation for our planners. How do you charge for travel? Mileage: We map the shortest and/or most cost efficient route to your venue and use the IRS mileage reimbursement amount to calculate mileage charge. This is calculated round trip for each trip made to the venue and is paid directly to the planner. Depending on the island, we try to drive instead of relying on the ferry system. Our timelines are very specific and we don’t want to be late. We have found driving down and around Bainbridge island for instance is far more reliable. Obviously not do-able when we are going to the San Juan’s for instance but we always do what we can to ensure our ability to deliver the absolute best for you! Accommodation: We actually find specific accommodations and use the actual cost of those accommodations in your quote, not some arbitrary number. Those accommodations are booked immediately upon signing to lock in rates. Our goal is to look for something safe and affordable near the venue, and since we always have two planners onsite, our planners share a room to save on costs. Meals: For venues requiring overnight accommodations, we charge a meal fee equal to $50 a day per planner per day. Being away from their home means they need to eat dinner after the rehearsal and breakfast and lunch too. We keep it reasonable so your planner is ready to go, but isn’t eating extravagantly. Kate was our day of coordinator, and we could not have asked for anyone better! She was incredibly patient with us leading up to the wedding, but also pushed us to make sure we were on top of everything. On the wedding day, she handled everything, big and small. She was approachable and would make sure any request was taken care of quickly. We can not recommend Kate enough! - Tova, Married 9/9/23 at Islandwood Washington Coast and Island Wedding Venues Captain Whidbey Whidbey Island, WA Photographer: Jess Hunter Why We Love Them: This historic log cabin inn and restaurant is just what you need to complete your coastal PNW wedding. Standing for over 111 years, exudes charm with its rustic architecture, inviting fireplaces, and cozy accommodations. You can see the history framed on the walls, which made for a nostalgic looking photoshoot for Hailey and Chris’ November wedding. The venue provides a range of lodging options, allowing couples and their guests to stay on-site and immerse themselves fully in the celebration. The scenic waterfront setting offers the perfect backdrop for outdoor ceremonies, receptions and romantic first looks, while the cozy interior has a warm and intimate atmosphere for cocktail hour and pre-wedding festivities. Not to mention, you don’t have to worry about securing a caterer because the restaurant provides it all, showcasing Pacific Northwest flavors using locally-sourced ingredients. Insider Tip: While this venue provides quite a few amenities, there are a few necessities you’ll need to bring on site and plan for. There isn’t a feasible indoor space for events, so you’ll need to do your rain dance and have a backup tent plan. You’ll also need to plan on renting additional place settings for guests counts over 50 (the restaurant has a limited count) and rent mobile bathrooms for guest counts over 75. Lastly and most importantly, this venue requires you to hire a professional wedding planner - and for a good reason. You’ll need a team to direct guests, set up decor and rentals that aren’t in-house, and be a point person to direct your day. We LOVED being at Captain Whidbey, and would be happy to be there any time! The Finery Camano Island, WA Photographer: Works by Sarah Jane Why We Love Them: This venue is an easy coastal destination because Camano Island is easily accessible by a drive over the Mark Clark Bridge. While it doesn’t have a waterfront view, you get to enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery on the drive over. We love recommending this venue for intimate weddings, as The Finery only accommodates 50 guests. The Finery sits on 5 beautiful acres with a woodsy scenery and garden (landscaped with love by the owners themselves!). It’s especially perfect for a boho-inspired wedding and couples who value natural material and beautiful scenery. To complement The Finery’s scenery, the venue offers beautiful fruitwood folding chairs and custom wood tables for an elevated look - all included in the venue rental. We love a venue with gorgeous amenities! They also have other included options, like patio heaters for chillier days, access to fire pits, two getting ready rooms / huts, a custom bar with keg taps and an included speakers system. Insider Tip: Since this venue is primarily for small weddings and elopements, there are a few things to know. Due to the area’s noise ordinance, you can’t have amplified music or a traditional wedding DJ. However, the venue does provide a special outdoor speaker system for background music. You can bring in your caterer of choice, but there is no food preparation allowed on the premises, so we recommend opting for a food truck or a local caterer so your food stays warm between travels. Lastly, remember to book a shuttle service, because parking is very limited! Islandwood Bainbridge Island, WA Photographers: (1-6) Sarah Anne Photography & (7-11) Stefan & Audrey Why We Love Them: Islandwood weddings is THE venue for intimate, elevated camp experience for up to 200 guests. One of our planners, Kara, says it’s her absolute favorite Washington venue! The venue boasts a selection of thoughtfully designed indoor and outdoor spaces for both ceremony and reception. The property spans 200+ acres, with meadows, trails, ponds, gardens, treehouses, and a suspension bridge. It’s a PNW lover’s dream! The expansive campus encourages guests to explore. For those sold on the coastal experience, the venue has plenty of trails that lead down to the oceanfront to get that fresh, salty breeze in your hair. Islandwood also has a commitment to sustainability, and especially shows in its farm-to-table dining experience crafted from locally-sourced ingredients. We love the venue’s onsite cabin-style hotel for guests to stay the whole weekend and be immersed in the forest magic, and the treehouses that always make a romantic wedding night stay. But one of our favorite things about this venue is that the staff will even plan a weekend itinerary for you to experience all the venue has to offer, like the team building ropes course, outdoor activities, and more. Combine this with our full service planning or day of coordination, and you’re bound to have the most relaxing and immersive experience for your wedding weekend. Insider Tip: This venue really is a dream. There’s really no option short of the full experience, so a wedding here means a full buyout and a high venue fee. We spend a lot of time with our couples crafting their budget around the high venue fee, but know that you won’t need to bring in many additional rentals, because the venue has most things in house. But for couples who love the earth, you can rest easy knowing that all their proceeds go to their sustainability nonprofit, and outdoor science education. Kiana Lodge Poulsbo, WA - Kitsap Peninsula Photographers: (1-3) Claudia Noelle, (4-6) Bear Beau Photography & (7-9) Hannah Henden Photography Why We Love Them: We also featured Kiana Lodge in our Venue Series post for Washington Wedding Venues With A View for it's waterfront beauty! This venue is perfect if you like a more landscaped, garden setting but want the proximity to the water. One of our very own planners got married at this venue, so you know it's good! Kiana Lodge is right on the water, with an uninterrupted view overlooking Bainbridge Island. We love that the lodge has beautifully manicured outdoor areas, and a cozy, wooden interior with hanging plants that makes you feel like you're still in nature. The lodge also has amenities that shouldn't be overlooked, like staffing to direct parking, an included bonfire (dependent on fire restrictions), and folding chairs and round tables. Insider Tip: Take it from our planner Laura who got married here: "Book the house next door to the venue for the weekend! There is a path connecting the Airbnb to the venue, a 60 second walk! And also, book accommodations early; Poulsbo and the surrounding areas are popular areas especially during summer time." The venue provides wonderful in-house catering and bar, so no outside food or drink is allowed. If you plan to do an inside ceremony, make sure you have a crew (like us!) who can help you flip the space to reception. While the exterior is beautiful for ceremony, we don't recommend dining outside- the outdoorsy area is prone to crows. Kingston House Kingston, WA - Kitsap Peninsula Photographer: Tonie Christine Why We Love Them: The Kingston House has so much to offer - it’s a working lavender farm and spans across 27 acres and multiple options for ceremony, reception or just for exploring together on your wedding day. If you’re staying onsite in the mid-century modern Kingston House Residence that sleeps 14 guests, you’re even encouraged to explore the area and walking trails. This house is perfect to host your family or wedding party so you have a central place to hang out before and after the wedding. When we helped coordinate a wedding here, our lovely couple held their ceremony at the Pond Arbor and reception under the tent at The Sward, where they opted for a whimsical hanging installation. This venue can host up to 100 people, but unlike some island venues, this venue has a large parking lot AND a parking attendant so you don’t have to worry about limited space or needing a shuttle service. Insider Tip: This venue requires you to book a few things with their venue rental: 2 nights at the Kingston House for weekend weddings, and a professional and licensed wedding planner and full -service caterer. However, you do have your choice of picks for those required vendors! Sadly, no drop off catering is allowed, but we think you’ll feel more at ease with a full service caterer anyways! The Manor House Bainbridge Island, WA Photographers: (1-2) Ksenia Vasenev Photography, (2-5) Ashlee Meldrum Photography, (6-8) Lola Mango Photo and Film Why We Love Them: The Manor House at Pleasant Beach Village is the cutest historic venue, offering a sunset view overlooking the Puget Sound! The space accommodates up to 150 and offers year-round rain shelter under their permanent clear-top tent. If you love waterfront properties AND a garden setting, this is it! The tent space is full of greenery, with lucious shrub walls and greenery chandeliers hang year round, and stone paths around the tent lead to romantic gardens that bloom all throughout the summer. We love that the venue offers in-house catering, as well as a few other dining options for rehearsal dinners, a bite to eat while you're getting ready, or breakfast the next day. Another cheeky tip - one of the photos featured above shows a custom marque message on the Lynwood Theater - if you share a donation with the Theater, you can request a special message and walk just 5 minutes across the street from the venue for a photo moment! Insider Tip: Since this venue requires a longer drive or a ferry ride, we highly recommend to make sure your guest book early for accommodations early if they’re planning to stay the night -the island sells out fast in the summer months! Most photos of weddings at The Manor House are out on the patio under the tent, but note that you’ll need to plan to dance inside - there is a noise ordinance that restricts amplified music outside since the area is home to many local residents. - The Venue Series: Best Wedding Venues in Oregon and Washington
Welcome to the Venue Series! In this series, we as PNW Planners are sharing lists of our favorite venues we've been to and loved by location and by style to help you find your ideal wedding venue in Oregon or Washington. There are maybe hundreds of great wedding venues in the PNW, but which is the best one for you? Finding your wedding venue is likely one of the first, if not most important steps of wedding planning because it sets the foundation for your wedding day. Most couples spend hours Googling different wedding venues, and even more hours touring venues after they've narrowed it down to a few. And there's a reason why. There are a million factors that go into what makes a wedding venue best for you: price (perhaps the biggest determiner), guest capacity, included amenities, catering policy, vendor policy, style, seasonality, proximity... the list goes on. We help many of our couples find their venue (yes, you can definitely hire a planner before you have a venue!) via our Venue Hunt Consultation or add-on to their planning package so they know we're making the best decision for them. To make the search for your venue easier, we're sharing categorized lists of venues with you to help you find the perfect one. We'll release a new list of venues every week or so. Oregon is well known for its diverse landscapes and plethora of outdoor wedding venues that give a true PNW experience - from dreamy beaches, to snow-capped mountains, to forested havens, Oregon's got it all. We consider ourselves pretty lucky to be wedding planners in such a beautiful place. Whether you’re from Oregon or out of state, these wedding venues we’re sharing are our favorite spots to wow your guests and give them a real Oregon and PNW experience. If you're a local just looking for beautiful venue ideas, skip to the list of venues here. But if you're from out of state, you'll want to read below. Why You Should Get Married in Oregon Venue Costs The majority of our couples we work with are local to the area, but over the past few years Oregon has become a popular destination wedding and elopement spot and we’ve had a large spike in out-of-town couples planning weddings in Oregon. The reason? Well, for one, it’s beautiful. But the wedding industry in PNW is also more affordable than the East Coast and other places. According to the Wedding Spot, venue costs in Oregon range from $2,500 to $15,000, whereas venues in Southern California range from $5,000 to $30,000. Plus, there are no sales taxes in Oregon. Scenery & Activities No matter what scenery you’re into, Oregon really has it all, and you don’t have to drive far to explore all of it. If you’re planning a destination wedding, there are so many beautiful places to see to extend your wedding weekend celebration. You can host a wine tour in the Oregon Wine Country, plan a group hike at one of the thousands of trails Oregon has to offer, host a bar crawl and hop around Portland or Bend’s local beer scene, or spend a weekend skiing and snowboarding. The venues we cover below span across the entire state! Accommodations There are also a plethora of hotels, lodging, and Airbnb's for guests to stay. Our company has recently launched our new Venue Liaison program, where we help our local and out-of-town couples connect with hotels to secure room blocks, booking links and/or discount codes for their guests. Planning a Wedding in Oregon From Out of State While it’s not easy planning a wedding from states away, we’ve found ways to make the process easy without needing to be in town more than once, or even at all. Plan for weather One of the best parts of getting married in Oregon is having your ceremony and/or reception in the open air. Oregon may arguably have the most pleasant summer weather, but there are also months that can be wild cards. Oregon is prone to rainy summer days, wildfire season, and in the winter, the occasional snow storm. But don’t let that deter you - we have years of experience dealing with these types of conditions. We’ve moved a wedding in an hour due to an ice storm, enacted rain plans the morning of the wedding, and have witnessed a variety of ways to make your guests comfortable. In other words, we have a whole toolbox of Plan B’s! We’ll make sure you have an ideal rain, sun, or fair weather plan. Book early Oregon is a popular destination spot! If you’re considering one of these venues for your Oregon wedding, be sure to start early. We work with couples even before they have their venue, and our average planning time is usually a year or more in advance so we can help couples have a pleasant planning experience. Hire a wedding planner with experience If you’re planning from out of state, the first thing you should tackle is hiring your wedding planner - without a local connection, it’s hard to know what vendors are going to be a good fit for your wedding style and location or know how the lay of the land will affect your wedding. We always recommended hiring a wedding planner with years of experience - but don’t set your filters to just local planners. Sometimes planners with more experience and wider network connections are going to be a better fit than a planner that is closest to your venue. Your Perfect Bridesmaid has planned in Oregon for 15+ years, and we are constantly growing and refining our connections with vendors to give our couples the best fitting recommendations. Outdoor Oregon Destination Wedding Venues Scroll through to read about some of our favorite wedding venues that are perfect for destination weddings or showing off the beauty of Oregon. Camp Colton Photographers: (1-4) Lindsay Blair Photography (5-7) Krysta and Nick, (8-12) Roark and Jess Why We Love Them: Camp Colton is well known and loved for its magical tree coverage and forested backdrop. You get the nostalgic feel of a summer camp but in an elevated space with plenty of amenities for a comfortable experience. This venue is just southwest of Mt. Hood in the small town of Colton, away from the hustle and bustle of the city and road noise of busy highways. You really feel immersed in the forest at this venue, and there are options to enjoy it for even longer than the wedding day. This venue has onsite accommodations to book out for the entire weekend, or to use as your morning getting ready spot. This venue also has multiple areas to choose from for ceremony and reception, with venue rental packages for just their unaffiliated, historic chapel, partial property for the full day, or full wedding weekend buyouts with onsite accommodations. One of our favorite areas is the Shady Grove, because it’s reminiscent of Bella and Edwards dreamy Twilight wedding! Depending on the package, the venue also includes in-house options for chairs, tables and even basic linens and place settings. However, many of our couples end up renting from an additional company to achieve their desired design. Insider Tip: The simple elegance package is the most popular with couples that we work with. It gives you access to the entire west side of the venue, which has the Shady Grove and Event Hall, plus one hour of photo time on the East Side of the property. Camp Colton is located in a small town with limited accommodations, so we highly recommend having your guests stay locally in Portland and booking transportation services so no one gets lost or stuck out at the venue. Crook Point Photographers: (1-5) Luke + Mallory, (6-8) Dionne Kraus Photography & (9-12) Amy Fitch Photography Why We Love Them: Believe us when we say there is some type of magic in this place, and you’ll know it the minute you step foot onsite. Crook Point is located down in the SW corner of Oregon and is one of the few and only places in Oregon that has a private stretch of the Oregon Coast and one of the only views of the iconic Arch Rock. It’s the perfect blend of a beach venue and a woodland forest venue, situated up on the coastal cliffs in gorgeous meadows surrounded by trees that overlook the oceans. Crook Point has been owned by the Crook family for hundreds of years - so long that it precedes the Oregon Public Beach Law, so it’s one of the few and only places that has a private section of the Oregon Coast. This venue is also a vacation rental, so you can book out all or some of the dreamy beach houses to stay the weekend, all of which have private access to the sandy beaches (we highly recommend booking the accommodations to get to enjoy all the magic of Brookings, Oregon!). This venue spreads across hundreds of acres, with multiple places to host your elopement or wedding with a view from the cliffs of the Oregon Coast. The Arch Rock Main Lawn is the space we love and know the best, and can host larger weddings if you are not planning an elopement. Your Perfect Bridesmaid was one of the first planners to work at Crook Point and we had the honor of helping to support this family and make an incredible experience for couples hosting their wedding onsite. This venue also recently opened a new indoor venue space, The Mervue Estate, that was only in the beginning stages of construction when we first started planning weddings here in 2019 for our dear friend Katy Weaver Photography. This venue continues to grow and improve, and we continue to love being there. Insider Tip: We have so much to share about this venue, being the planning team who has worked there the most! There is no contender for Crook Point, but you will need to plan for a few logistical complications. There aren’t too many options for accommodations in town, so you’ll want to reserve the vacation rentals ASAP or warn your guests that they may need to look out 30 minutes to the next town. The Arch Rock Main Lawn doesn’t have running water or a traditional prep kitchen, so you will need to plan to stock up on water and ice from the store and hire a catering team that can bring in the proper equipment and help manage these complications. You’ll either need to have your caterer build your kitchen, or look at local caterers and be sure to hire on service staff. We always work closely with catering teams and make sure all the boxes are checked so you have a seamless wedding. Being that we’ve been here so many times, we’ve tried a few creative options and are happy to share what worked best. House on Metolius Photographer: Marcela Pulido Photography Why We Love Them: The House on the Metolius is designed for a true wedding weekend, summer camp experience for those looking to really wow and treat their guests. While Oregon is known for its lush forests, it’s equally known for the beautiful high desert landscape with clear blue skies and panoramic mountain. This venue is located in Central Oregon in the high desert with stunning views of the Metolius River and Mt. Jefferson in a meadow surrounded by ponderosa pines. A venue rental grants you private access to the entire venue, including two nights in the Main House, plus the ability to rent any additional cabins. You can host a wedding up to 180 people, and house 46 guests onsite to keep your friends and family close and near. We’re obsessed with this venue and everything in it. The houses onsite are gorgeous, and really offer a luxury experience with the feel of a quaint mountain cabin. Not to mention, the views are truly unbeatable. When we helped plan and design Danielle and Gorman’s summer wedding, we really leaned into the camp feel, with pendant table numbers and bandana place cards and favors (that turned into the best dance floor props), and loved referring to the weekend extravaganza as “Camp Gorman”. Insider Tip: This venue is made for those who want to treat their guests to a seamless weekend. In order to ensure this, the venue requires that you plan for a few things. You’ll need an experienced wedding coordinator, and we recommend having a coordinator for your pre and post auxiliary events to complete the experience. You’ll also need to have a tent on retainer, per their contract, as an inclement weather plan to protect you and the property. Lastly, while we keep saying this is the ultimate camp experience, there is unfortunately no camping allowed on the property, but there are local campsites nearby as an alternative. Noble Ridge Tree Deck Photographers: (1-3) Samantha Dean Photography & (4-12) Luke + Mallory Why We Love Them: Like we mentioned before, we love a venue that has a story. Noble Ridge Tree Deck is on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge, but is sought out by Oregonians all over. This venue’s main pull is the stunning, 3000 square foot deck up in the trees with a perfectly framed view of the mountains and valleys of the Silver Star Mountain area. The owners, Phil and Pam, built the deck originally for their daughter’s wedding (the real love story!), and now a few handful of clients get to enjoy the same precious spot for their own wedding. Phil and Pam are the most thoughtful owners, and they're always building something to improve the site. They’ve even developed a few additional areas for elopements! A typical venue rental includes access to the Tree Deck and a large, Scenic Lawn with an equally beautiful view of the valley, covered gazebo for cocktail hour. The Scenic Lawn is great for cocktail hours in the sun - and helicopter entrances! (Yes, we did that). The real appeal is the serenity of being in the trees and far away from others, but we also love that the venue has comfortable amenities kike the treehouse-like cabins for wedding prep, access to internet (thank you Starlink), well-built and bathroom facilities and tables and chairs. Insider Tip: This venue will definitely help you get your steps in! The Tree Deck is only big enough to be set for a ceremony or reception at one time, so your guests will need to walk up the hill and for the ceremony, down for cocktail hour, and up for reception. We had one couple host their ceremony down on the lawn, but in order to preserve the beauty of the lawn, no chairs are allowed and only standing ceremonies are permitted. You’ll also want to plan to arrange for transportation. Not only is the venue located ~30 minutes inland from the highway on a gravel road, but the venue’s parking is about ½ mile from the venue. There’s a sprinter van shuttle provided to get guests to the welcome area, but if you arrange for transportation, the bus can take guests comfortably straight to the welcome area and you won’t have to worry about anyone getting lost. Timberline Lodge Photographers: (1-4) Aly Mac Photograph, (5-8) Klover & (9-12) Catalina Jean Why We Love Them: What's more PNW than getting married on an actual mountain? The historic lodge, known for its iconic architecture and warm ambiance, offers a few indoor and outdoor spaces to host your wedding. There’s two indoor banquet spaces to choose from, the outdoor patio with an incredible view of Mt. Hood, and the indoor Raven’s Nest with floor to ceiling triangular windows so you still get the view from the indoors. Timberline is also a great one-stop-shop, with in-house catering (which is SO good, we can vouch), tables, chairs, basic place settings, and in-house options to add on twinkle lines and draping in the banquet rooms. Plus, the lodge is incredible - it’s hard to want to leave. We love the warm, wood details and historic charm in this space - even in the banquet rooms. Timberline is perfect for destination weddings because you get stunning views and convenient accommodation all in one place. Many of our couples will host their rehearsal, after party and/or their post-wedding brunch at Timberline to treat their guests beyond the wedding. Whether you're hosting a winter or summer wedding, there’s also endless outdoor activities - skiing, hiking, tubing, and even a summer alpine slide. If your guests aren’t staying at the lodge, Government Camp at the bottom of the mountain has plenty of hotel rooms, B&B’s and local breweries, diners and bakeries to enjoy. Insider Tip: Our team has planned and designed at Timberline in both summer and winter months. There’s really nothing to worry about for a summer wedding, but we have quite a few pointers for hosting a winter wedding! Winter weddings at Timberline are quite popular, as many couples who chose Timberline as their venue share a love for the snow and mountain sports. If you’re planning a winter wedding, be sure to warn your guests and account for mountain traffic - sometimes it can take up to 30 minutes to get up the Timberline Highway because they only let cars up once cars come down. Staying onsite so you can park in the hotel lot and arriving early are key. There is always the chance of a winter storm, too. We’ve made it up the mountain each and every time for our couples, but it usually causes a hiccup or two. Be aware that some rental companies and their two wheel drive trucks may not be able to make it if the weather is bad, so always have a plan to use everything in-house and double check the deposit rules on your rental contracts. Silcox Hut Photographers: (1-5) JOS & TREE & (6-9) Blaine & Bethany Photo Why We Love Them: Silcox Hut is part of Timberline Lodge, but we’re giving it its own section because it’s a whole different experience. While the Lodge may be on the mountain, Silcox Hut sits above it at 7000 feet of elevation and is unlike anywhere we’ve ever been! It was built in 1939 as a warming hut. Now, it’s rentable for weddings or even an unforgettable overnight before or after your wedding, with a bunk room onsite and full bathroom and shower. The interior features the most beautiful wooden and stone features, with the (working) stone fireplace as the centerpiece and backdrop for your ceremony. This venue is for smaller guest counts, with a guest limit of less than 50. The hut is most desired in the winter months, because, well, winter magic! Due to the snow, the venue shuttles guests up in a few round trips in their large, red snowcat, so part of the experience is the ride up. The hut itself is an experience, too. If the weather is clear, you get a panoramic view of the mountain range, and an extreme close up view of the summit of Mt. Hood. The hut is aSilcox Hut is dearly loved by the dedicated staff that makes the trek up and down the mountain for these weddings - the Silcox Hut crew is incredible! Because Silcox Hut is part of Timberline, you get many of the Timberline Lodge benefits, like 2 nights in one of the lodge’s suites and ability to book any auxiliary events in the Lodge to have all your events in one place. Insider Tip: Silcox Hut doesn’t need much in terms of decor with its memorable interior, but it does require a bit of logistical planning. The venue includes a specific amount of snowcat or shuttle rides dependent on your guest count, and one of our biggest tasks is helping to coordinate how everyone (including vendors) and everything gets up in the order it needs to. We highly recommend assigning people to shuttles to help with this, and making sure you have a timeline that accounts for the travel time, and buffer time. But don’t worry, we always do this for all our couples! One little tip we always like to keep in mind is warning everyone of the elevation effects. If your guests aren’t used to being at high elevations or even bumpy rides, guests may feel carsick from the snowcat ride, and they will definitely feel an alcoholic drink more intensely up at a higher elevation. It’s always safe to make an announcement on your wedding website or at your rehearsal dinner so everyone is prepared! - Portland Wedding at Redwood Observation Deck and Revolution Hall - Kalong and Andrew
July | K&A showed off the best of Portland for their out of town and out of the country guests, with an iconic forest ceremony and local Portland eats at a bar-turned-wedding-venue. | Photo By Mackenzie Ford | We love when a wedding has a good story to it! We love sharing beautiful galleries, but sometimes there are little tidbits you don't see in photos that make the wedding so special. So buckle up, we're sharing some of our favorite parts to Kalong and Andrew's wedding! Kalong and Andrew got married officially during the pandemic with just a few people to witness. After fun changes like buying a house and having a baby, they chose to host a "redo" ceremony and reception in summer 2023 so all their friends and family could celebrate with them. This time, with a big emphasis on the party portion. K&A held their ceremony at Hoyt Arboretum's iconic Redwood Observation Deck, so she could finally have her dad walk her down the aisle (he wasn't able to be there for their first ceremony). Since they had already shared vows with each other the first time around, they chose to share their "WOWs". AKA, the WOW's of their marriage thus far, like the things that they admire or were surprised by or just plain love about the other person - how CUTE! They hosted their reception at Revolution Hall with retro details and fun and funky pink details. Her dear friend just so happened to be one of our trusted floral vendors, Taylor Made Floral, who dressed up the bar and transformed it into their reception. Since most of the guests who attended were from out of town, K&A wanted to make sure their guests would get to experience some of their favorite Portland eats. They used Sporkbytes to cater and serve local Portland eats, like Khao San, Luc Lac, and Top Burmese. To top off the night, dessert was fiery s'mores by 1927's S'mores! What. A. Night. If you're looking to do a night as fun as Kalong and Andrew's, we'd be over the moon to help you coordinate it and even design your details! Working with Joie from YPB was one of our best decisions for our big day! From day one she was professional, kind, detail oriented and kept us focused and grounded. We chose the Signature package and couldn’t have been happier! We really didn’t know how to do the layout at our venue and after the walkthrough Joie produced an amazing draft for us, so we could see how our vision could be a reality. She also produced the most thorough timeline for our ceremony and reception, including so many details we wouldn’t have ever thought of like how the bride was getting to the venue or who was taking cards and gifts home. All our vendors were delighted to hear that we were working with YPB, which put us at ease to know we were in good hands. Joie was super responsive and great at creative problem solving, as well as assertive with our vendors and patiently addressing our concerns. Our wedding went smoothly, at least everything did that was under our control! We had a phenomenal time and would whole heartedly recommend working with Joie at YPB! Thank you for everything! Winter Wedding Inspiration for the Sustainable Couple Photos by Ellie Asher Photography Sometimes less is more.... ... when designed with intention. This styled shoot was designed with sustainability in mind. As planners, we were so excited when Ellie From The Ashers Photography and Alli from Bramble Floral came to us with this vision for a styled shoot. It is elegant and organic, sophisticated with a hint of wild. We are so thankful to have such creative friends in the industry and get to help style and plan this shoot. This moody and winter-inspired palette that is perfect for the wildly in love. The industrial and modern space like The Redd on Salmon Street paired perfectly with these wild and organic elements. Bramble's sprawling, asymmetric installation on clean, white dividers creates a focal piece for the ceremony. We chose clear acrylic chairs for simplicity and to let your eye wander along the crawling floral design. The space at The Redd is bright, which is the perfect environment to introduce dark, contrasting elements. We love color, but this monochromatic tablescape achieves a different level of sophistication. Starting with the gray textured linen, we added the marble charger and salad plate, and then contrasted with the matte black stoneware and gray textured linen. The gold flatware brings a subtle "pop" to the table and the knot linen fold compliments the organic garland and family style platting. Our décor list was simple and intentional - meaning less waste at the end of your wedding. We love the idea of these compostable thank you notes - paper that you can bury, water, and grow beautiful flowers. Instead of trying to fill the open spaces, we played to the space's existing features and softened them with florals. We also love how the venue offers so many opportunities for experiences - kids and adults alike can get some animal love at the venues' livestock zoo, newlyweds can have a "Little Mermaid" moment and smooch on a romantic boat ride, and guests can wander amongst the garden space. The venue holds up to 140 guests, in a beautiful, rustic space. While the space can lean rustic with it's original wood siding, Julia and Adrian transformed the space with garden-inspired florals and the perfect combination of summer and fall colors. We loved the rust, dusty blue, blush and terracotta seen throughout their invitation suite, the wedding party colors, and their tablescape. Little details like the white Contessa plates from CORT, the stone placecards, and the velvet blue napkins really elevated their design. Julia and Adrian had the best taste, and we're so glad they trusted us with our Signature Package to set up their beautiful wedding day. Meadowbrook Farm offers a spacious field for ceremony and reception with an up close view of Mount Si in the background. Sarah and Keegan brought a garden-inspired, dusty blue design to the space, and little elements of themselves all throughout the weddings. Making weddings personal is what we love to do, and Sarah and Keegan had the best ideas. In lieu of a guest book, S&K sourced a general store-style postcard rack for guests to write messages on. As lovers of the outdoors, they included some of their favorite places as table "names" instead of numbers, and a self-made seating chart map to show where those places are. Once dancing began, they shared their favorite late-night snack with their guests: sugar cereals and milk! This was such a fun wedding to be a part of! July | An intimate wedding ceremony at Trillium Lake, followed by a dreamy reception at Blockhouse in Portland with a playful decor, vibrant summer colors and customized details. | Photo By Lilli Productions | Not every wedding is cut from the same cloth, and Nicole and Jonah's Oregon destination wedding was the perfect example of a truly unique day. N&J wanted to prioritize an intimate and romantic day - that meant only inviting a small group of friends and family to celebrate in the beauty of the PNW. While it's not easy to craft a guestlist of just 15 people, it allowed N&J to enjoy one another without having to worry about anyone else but each other. N&J have an amazing eye for design, so the overall aesthetic was equally as important. We helped them with a custom package to coordinate, manage and set up at two locations over an hour apart - and it went off without a hitch! Intimate, Lakeside Ceremony with PB&J Unity Ceremony In The Mountains N&J started the day early in their AirBnB's in Rhododendron to get ready until they set off for their first look, where they read private letters to each other - intimate time together, just like they wanted! Once their family arrived via shuttle bus (a nice touch to ease the complications of a destination wedding), they celebrated their love at Trillium Lake underneath Mt. Hood with a PB&J unity ceremony, and Nicole and Jonah intentionally selected and custom made everything from the placemat, to the plate, to the flatware used in the ceremony - items they'll have in their house for years to come. Vibrant and Eclectic Reception In A Portland Nursery After they sealed the deal, N&J's family drove back to Portland where they were absolutely wowed by the the stunning and vibrant reception space we set up during the day, full of customized details like we've never seen before. No detail was left to chance, from the looping, handwritten signage, to the backdrop for their vintage cake, to the personalized menus and place cards. We'll never forget how good the bright lavender runner, vibrant florals, fruit, tapered candles, and a fantasy-like installation looping above looked in the green space. The more we look at these photos, the more we fall in love with them. It takes a lot to trust someone to set up a design as extravagant, Nicole and Jonah's, especially when when you're planning from another state - but with customizable services and years and years of experience, we're able to help make anything happen.
